Improve Test Coverage to Account for Run-Time Environmental Variations by TechExcel

In this white paper, we will discuss how to optimize testing practices to ensure products run reliably within the production environment. In order for products to perform and work as intended, a test plan should include test cases that are executed across all possible environments and combinations of these environments in which the products can be run. It can be extremely complex to create such a comprehensive test plan and in a manner in which testers can execute.

We will also introduce models and provide methods to solve this challenge. Specifically, two models—static combination model and street model—will be discussed. Both deal with environmental variations, with the former being more rigid but straightforward, while the street model copes with a much larger number of environmental combinations to be covered by offering flexibility and maintaining ease of use for testers.

We will also cover the following:

  • Why an Excel-like testing grid is intuitive and easiest for testers to follow and visualize the test plan with run-time environment variations
  • How multi-dimensional run-time variables and all their possible permutations and combinations can be tested
  • How to ensure your product is reliable and performs as intended in the production environment
  • How to ensure product quality levels by accounting for any possible environmental changes
  • The basics of testing coverage for functional and performance-based testing
