Managing Software Maniacs: Finding, Managing, and Rewarding a Winning Development Team
From a review by Ed Yourdon in the June '94 American Programmer- "If you're managing the development of PC based software projects or if you're in the midst of a client-server project with a bunch of C++ programmers who just don't seem to behave the way those old COBOL mainframers used to, this book is for you.
It is especially relevant if you're managing the development of a PC product like shrink wrapped software. Breezily written and punctuated with 96 rules. Rule 67, for example, provides a concise but very convincing explanation of the rule 'If one milestone slips, so will the others.'
All of this makes reading the book fun. Whitaker's background included leading the delivery of Harvard Graphics, PFS and other top software products at Software Publishing. It makes him eminently qualified."

I have to say that this is the best book I have read in years and I am going to find it to bring on my next plane trip to re-read. Whitaker knows his stuff, and I am currently trying to implement his practices where I am currently.
