True Build Management and Automation

Dependency Management

If you’re like most development shops, then chances are that you have more than one project and that there are interdependencies between your projects. Your Utilities project may be reused by virtually every project you have. AnthillPro can manage these dependencies. Whenever a new version of the Utilities project is built, new builds of all projects dependent on Utilities can be initiated (pushed). Also, whenever a project dependent on Utilities is built, AnthillPro can initiate (pull) a build of the Utilities project. Of course the Utilities project is a very simplistic example, and this feature really comes into its own when faced with dependencies in real world projects, not contrived examples.

Pluggable Source Code Management System Drivers

AnthillPro is able to check out code from just about every major source code repository (and new ones are in development). Currently supported repositories include Accurev, Clearcase, CVS, MKS, Perforce, PVCS (Serena Pro), StarTeam, Subversion, and VSS. If your repository does not appear, contact Urbancode right away – new drivers can be built in as little as 10 days.

Pluggable Builders – Execute Any Command

AnthillPro can execute any command to build your project. This means that no matter what scripting language was used for your build script, Anthill can automate it. The pluggable builders concept in AnthillPro allows Anthill to integrate more closely with common builders such as Ant, Maven, and Make. And, if you are building in the Java environment, then you’ll be happy to know that Anthill allows you to configure the exact JDK and Ant version for each project.

Convenient Web-based User Interface

AnthillPro’s clean, intuitive web-based user interface is used to access build results and to configure the system. AnthillPro will notify all interested parties of build results via email and provides numerous notification configuration options. Security for the web interface can integrate with your existing security system, be it LDAP, Active Directory, Kerberos, or something else. And, because AnthillPro is web-based, can be accessed from anywhere.

Every build performed by AnthillPro is done in a clean and controlled environment with a clean set of sources straight from the source control system. The sources for every build are recoverable and every build is reproducible. Builds done by-hand and IDE-based builds do not deliver the same level of assurance as to their contents.

Track Your Software Assets
Every time AnthillPro builds a project, it publishes its artifacts, including docs and binaries, to a locally-stored, private project intranet accessible by your developers. The project intranet will be the first place your developers look for reusable components or to find documentation for a component they are using. Never lose a software asset again.
