NEW YORK, NY--(October 24, 2007) - IBM (NYSE: IBM) has created and implemented
the digital newsroom for FOX Business Network's debut to more than 30
million subscribers.
IBM Global Business Services brought together diverse and powerful
standards-based hardware and software from IBM and other specialized
broadcast vendors to create a tightly integrated news production
environment for the business cable network.
IBM offered FOX the most agile, cost effective and operationally efficient
approach to the network's news production workflow. The digital production
management system spans news collection (ingest), production, distribution
and archiving for all of FOX's business news programs. The system enables
FOX Business Network to:
- acquire content centrally and share it quickly across the entire
business newsroom;
- rapidly edit stories and disseminate them to multiple business news
destinations in only moments;
- gain faster and more frequent access to video archives to make stories
more compelling;
- deliver on-air broadcasts that support both automated and manual
playout mechanisms; and
- distribute digital content to other channels such as the Web or mobile
devices.
There is no area of production more in need of flexibility and adaptability
than news. IBM's componentized approach allowed FOX Business Network to
choose the applications that best met their needs, and IBM integrated the
applications together in a cohesive, seamless workflow.
"We're proud to work with FOX on this visionary business cable network,"
said Dick Anderson, general manager of Media and Entertainment at IBM. "FOX
Business Network's high standards and fast-paced environment demand getting
content to air quickly. By leveraging IT standards, FOX makes no
compromises and has the ability to keep costs down."
IBM Global Business Services applied its deep expertise with a
standards-based integration to provide the dynamic flexibility, visibility,
and control that FOX Business Network needed over its systems, processes,
and people. IBM Global Business Services created the foundation that allows
the network to rapidly integrate media production applications into a
single, productive workflow. FOX Business Network is utilizing IBM
hardware and storage including IBM System x and System p, IBM System
Storage DS4000, IBM Linear Tape Open 4 storage libraries, and software
including IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Tivoli Productivity Center, Tivoli
Netcool, and IBM DB2. The complete solution also includes specialized
broadcast applications and systems from suppliers including Apple, Ardendo,
Avid Technologies, Omneon, Pebble Beach Systems, and Quantum.
