SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 22 - Hewlett-Packard Co (HPQ.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday it agreed to buy Atos Origin Middle East group to broaden its consulting and system integration business in the region. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Atos Origin Middle East is a privately held group of companies based in Bahrain that employs more than 450 people. It was formed in 2006 after the French information-technology services group Atos Origin SA (ATOS.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) sold its Middle East operation to local management.
HP shares were down 55 cents, or about 1 percent, at $50.85 in
mid-day trading. The Dow Jones Industrial average was down 0.3 percent.
Palo Alto, California-based HP said it expects the sale to be
completed in November. AOME group specializes in resource-planning
systems based on technology from SAP AG (SAPG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research), the world's largest maker of business management software.
The planned acquisition would be HP's third in the past several
months aimed at helping corporate customers manage computer systems. In
July, HP agreed to buy software maker Opsware Inc (OPSW.O: Quote, Profile, Research) for about $1.6 billion as well as Neoware Inc (NWRE.O: Quote, Profile, Research) for $214 million.
HP said the Atos Origin Middle East acquisition will boost its
business in SAP capabilities in the Middle East, strengthen its
expertise in the public sector and in oil and gas, and expand its
presence to Libya and Qatar.
