Continues Business Transformation Around Mashups and SaaS in High-Growth Markets
SAN MATEO, Calif. & TOKYO--Serena Software, Inc. today announced that the company will expand its corporate presence in the Japanese market by opening a Japan Solutions Center in February 2008. Software as a service (SaaS) is quickly becoming the preferred software delivery model in Japan and Serena’s new investments in the region are designed to drive adoption of Serena’s on-demand applications and services, including Serena Business Mashup products.
“Japan’s thriving
economy shows how business and technology can intersect to boost both
innovation and productivity. This fits perfectly with Serena’s
evolving business strategy,” said Jeremy
Burton, Serena president and CEO. “With
Business Mashups, Serena is enabling a new generation of Web 2.0 power
users to develop simple, everyday applications and deploy them quickly
and easily to the Internet – without burdening
IT. Corporations will finally be able to harness the innovative ideas of
workers throughout their organizations and drive productivity in years
to come.”
Serena will increase its investment in Japan by 50 percent by the end of
its fiscal year. This includes a new Japan Solution Center, which will:
-
Provide local technical resources to respond rapidly to Japanese
customer issues.
-
Recruit, enable, and support Japanese partners who are looking to
build businesses around Business Mashups.
-
Ensure quick and thorough localization of Serena applications to the
Japanese market.
Business Mashups and SaaS
For more than 27 years, Serena has been the leading independent software
company focused solely on application lifecycle management (ALM),
helping enterprise IT organizations build, manage and deploy complex
software applications and effectively manage their IT portfolio.
Just as Web 2.0 technologies have made it possible for millions to
create custom Web applications using open APIs and tools from companies
such as Google, Facebook, and others, Serena Mashup Composer will make
it easy to visually design Business Mashups that automate common
business activities. This new approach will enable power users in the
business and IT to quickly address their everyday needs, while freeing
scarce application development resources to focus on more complex tasks.
With Business Mashups, Serena is leveraging its ALM expertise to merge
consumer-driven Web 2.0 technologies with enterprise systems and
processes. Key parts of this solution will include:
-
Serena® Mashup Composer™
- a free visual design environment that makes it easy for business
users or “mashers”
to create new composite applications and deploy them to the Internet
without the need for specialized IT resources.
-
Serena® Mashup Exchange™
- an online marketplace where “mashers”
will be able to find, buy, and sell pre-packaged Mashups, Web
services, and professional services designed to solve myriad business
problems common to businesses of any size.
Delivering these services on demand—where
customers can avoid the cost and complexity of on-premise software—is
a key part of Serena’s business strategy.
According to Gartner, “Worldwide total
software revenue for software as a service (SaaS) within the enterprise
software markets is projected to surpass $5.1 billion in 2007, a 21
percent increase from 2006 revenue. The market is poised for strong
growth through 2011, when worldwide revenue will reach $11.5 billion.”
