Altiris, Now Part of Symantec, Ships Configuration Management Database for Mid-Sized Organizations

CMDB Solution is natively built on the Altiris service-oriented architecture to provide tight integration with Altiris execution tools for closed-loop IT service and configuration management. CMDB Solution will deliver a practical alternative to other CMDB offerings by providing a basis for automating configuration management and servicing an IT environment, going above and beyond basic information and relationship tracking.

According to Forrester research, Altiris IT asset management products offer "a full-featured solution around the company's service management and life-cycle tools. Asset information is natively modeled within a CMDB, rather than simply accessed from a separate data store, and includes contractual information, leases, warranties, SLAs, and SLOs."*

Historically, the Altiris architecture has provided built-in CMDB capabilities such as the creation of new resource types, management of current configuration items, connector functionality for quick external data federation, and a graphical representation of configuration items to help IT professionals visualize how items are prioritized and related. The new, productized Altiris CMDB Solution will now also include:

• Automatic discovery and maintenance of configuration items

• External data reconciliation

• New resource types including services, systems, rack, server, and power
  

• History changes filtered by person, type, etc.

• Additional configuration item task creation and control

• Enhanced reporting with configuration item history, additional change reports and dependencies

Availability

Altiris CMDB Solution is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2007. It is expected to be available through the Altiris direct sales force, VAR channel, system integrators and select OEM partners and is offered starting at an MSRP of $6,995 per concurrent user.
