Mindquarry offers the first Open Source alternative to Microsoft's Sharepoint Server or IBM's Lotus Connections. The free download is available at www.mindquarry.com. Mindquarry eases especially teams in small and mid-sized companies, freelancers or home workers to use distributed workplaces in an efficient way. It streamlines knowledge and file exchange and the management for teams and tasks. With the release as Open Source software under the "Mozilla Public Licence" the spin-off of the Hasso Plattner Institute wants to allure a developer community as the first step. Since the product is ready to use, any teams are welcome to use the software, because they can provide user feedback and help to improve the product continuously. Commercial customers will get a cost-saving service subscription, the "Mindquarry Enterprise Server". A further important milestone is the product as a hosted service. That allows small customers to use the Mindquarry features within a browser on their laptop, without having the need of an own server and IT-infrastructure. Users can simply access their files, knowledge and tasks from any point with Internet access. The new teamwork software is made for users who mainly work with documents, drawings, presentations and outlines within a team, so called "information workers". Stephan Voigt, CEO of Mindquarry says: "The Mindquarry design follows social software like Wikipedia: Any information is provided and managed at a central point. But team members have access from home, from their office or during travels." "The user interface is very intuitive", describes Voigt as another advantage of their new software. Without any training course everyone can use the software immediately. After the server set-up, users can access the software instantly via their web browser. Each team member has access to their team space resources like documents, knowledge pages or glossaries and rules in the Wiki as well as team tasks. "Anything within the Mindquarry team space is retrievable by a powerful full-text search," says Lars Trieloff, COO of Mindquarry. Together with two other master graduates of the Hasso Plattner Institute he has founded the company in summer 2006. "We are exactly according the plan we have coordinated with Hasso Plattner Ventures", explains Trieloff. The fast implementation of the high-value product from the idea was possible by the use of pre-made components and of innovative development tools like Cocoon from the Apache Open Source community. Short Profile Mindquarry The Mindquarry GmbH (www.mindquarry.com ) was founded in 2006 by 3 students of the Potsdam Hasso Plattner Institute for IT software engineering: Lars Trieloff, Alexander Klimetschek und Alexander Saar. They started out to develop a set of products to enable a streamlined teamwork environment for information workers. They convinced the venture-capital fond Hasso Plattner Ventures to step in and enlisted the business professional Stephan Voigt as the new CEO. Voigt has been CEO at Scopeland before and he has lead the Scopeland branch office in San Francisco too. "Mind" & "Quarry" stands for the ability to develop new resources for information worker who are using Mindquarry tools. The Mindquarry Collaboration Server is a set of well proven professional collaboration tools made to be easy usable by everyone. The start-up is located at the new Hasso Plattner Hi-tech-Park in Potsdam/Germany.
