Seapine Software Announces Availability of Surround SCM 2010

Latest release of popular enterprise software configuration management solution builds on tighter application integration, robust reporting capabilities, and other enhancements

Cincinnati, OH – November 16, 2009 – Seapine Software, a leading global provider of quality-centric application lifecycle management (ALM) solutions, today announced the release of Surround SCM 2010, the latest version of its popular enterprise software configuration management solution. This major release takes third-party application integration a step further, giving users more control over applications from within the Surround SCM client. New reporting features extend customization and provide additional process visibility.

“The theme of the Surround SCM 2010 release was ‘customization’ with the goal of enabling our customers to more easily integrate Surround into their development processes,” said Rick Riccetti, president and CEO, Seapine Software. “For example, our new open API makes it much easier to integrate Surround with other development tools and removes the tedious act of writing integration code using the command line interface. Surround’s graphical client is also configurable now, allowing users to kick off builds or perform other activities from the client.”
Surround SCM 2010 includes the following major new features:

Open API – Surround SCM’s open API allows users to write applications that access branches, repositories, and files on the Surround SCM Server using the C, Java, and .Net programming languages. Most SCM tools require programmers to write their applications using the tool’s command line interface, which is inefficient from both a programming and a runtime performance perspective.
Third-party application integration – The Surround SCM graphical client now lets users add custom commands to branch, repository, and file menus. This productivity-enhancing feature allows users to launch third-party applications or custom scripts from within Surround SCM.
Enhanced reporting capabilities and external reporting services integration – Surround SCM’s reporting capabilities include major enhancements that enable greater customization of internal reports and allow users to build and view custom reports or dashboards stored in external reporting services. Development managers can also obtain additional project progress insight through a new Workflow Progress report.
License usage tracking – To help customers manage their license costs most efficiently, Surround SCM’s license server now includes detailed logging of license usage and the ability to determine peak usage times and the distribution of license types via a dashboard.

Surround SCM 2010 also includes support for Unix symlinks, automatic client upgrades to simply administration, and integration with Apple’s Xcode development environment, among other new features. The new version is available immediately for evaluation at Seapine Software’s Web site and is a free upgrade for customers with current Surround SCM maintenance agreements.
