L.L.Bean is currently searching for a Sr. Configuration Engineer to join our Information Services Department based in Freeport, Maine. The Senior Configuration Engineer is responsible for supporting continuous integration, standardizing build environments, developing build automation frameworks, and integrating QA testing into the build process. He/she will be assigned to high priority development efforts and will act as a mentor to a small team of Configuration Engineers.  The person in this role will have a significant impact on the direction of Software Configuration Management at L.L.Bean. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and deploy new standards, policies and practices that will enable higher quality product deliverables.
  • Review and potentially refine the current continuous integration build process.
  • Maintain software baselines and ensure all artifacts are properly placed under configuration management.
  • Motivate, mentor and help develop other members of the CE team.
  • Drive the development and implementation of team process improvements.
  • Manage the promotion of interactive work products through the development environments to production according to a defined process, utilizing a build tool and version control system.
  • Proactively manage build scripts throughout the life of a project as code/jar dependencies change. Keep the developer productive.
  • Keep an external outlook on configuration and deployment management best practices.

Job Qualifications Required skills include:
  • Extensive experience with build and release management.
  • Full understanding of continuous integration/build process.
  • Substantial experience with Rational ClearCase in a UCM environment.
  • Experience with Java and demonstrable knowledge of EARS and JARS.
  • Demonstrated Perl skills.
  • Experience with Ant and CruiseControl, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated skills in toolset integration.
  • Highly comfortable in UNIX/Linux basic administration.
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Established coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.
  • Advanced consulting skills.
  • Working knowledge of Maven, Anthill Pro, or other automated build tools.
  • Experience with defect management tools (ClearQuest, Jira).
  • Expertise in database tools (SQL, Oracle, DB2) or concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Eclipse IDE and plug-in configurations.
  • Experience with WebSphere Application Server and MQ.
  • Ability to perform configuration audits on software code deliveries.
  • Advanced organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Experience with Junit, Jsunit, functional testing tools (Selenium, Fitnesse), data loading (Dbunit) and familiarity with automated testing concepts.

The following skills are preferred:

  • Working knowledge of Maven, Anthill Pro, or other automated build tools.
  • Experience with defect management tools (ClearQuest, Jira).
  • Expertise in database tools (SQL, Oracle, DB2) or concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Eclipse IDE and plug-in configurations.
  • Experience with WebSphere Application Server and MQ.
  • Ability to perform configuration audits on software code deliveries.
  • Advanced organizational and prioritization skills.
