I am working on the Calendar for 2009 (see below) and I would love to Here is the current proposed list. The first date is the due date for article submission and the second date is the publication date for the issue. If this is the first time that you are submitting an article then I strongly encourage you to get me a draft a week or two earlier than the due date. I will make every effort to help you with writing (e.g. spelling, grammer and word usage). The CM Journal is an excellent publication because all of our writers (including myself) are true trench level CM practitioners. We eat, sleep and drink Configuration Management so all of our articles are written from the powerful position of hands-on experience. We know what works and what doesn't. That also means that you don't have to be a polished writer, because we are always delighted to work with new (editorial) talent. Many of our writers go on to write books and all of our writers benefit from the experience of getting their articles published. (Consultants may find themselves a little overbooked!)
I am hoping that you will join us!
Dates shown below are for the submission deadline and then the publication date.
Apr 15 22 Build and Deployment Essentials
May 13 20 Change Control or Control of Changes Jun 10 17 Evaluating and Selecting Right Tools Jul 15 22 Release Management Essentials Aug 12 19 CM Plan or Planning for CM Sep 16 23 Implementing Standards and Frameworks Oct 14 21 Overcoming Resistance to Change Nov 11 18 SCM Essentials for Small Teams Dec 9 16 Year end wrap-up - lessons learned and goals achieved

... Bob: I agree with Joe; there is a LOT of overlap with last year's topics. In some cases (March and April) I have already started work on different presentations from last year, but for the most part I will have to really try to present something different for the others. I think the September topic could be on what changes are being proposed to standards and how the economy is affecting their adoption, but I think this would limit the number of contributing authors significantly. Given the way the global economy is tanking, it might be a good thing to address the economic affect on CM fairly soon. Maybe we could even do, or participate in, social networking for CMers in trouble. Being proactive in getting them back into the workforce where they could make a different and not end up out of the niche. I think the November topic bears repeating, especially if we address the transition to a small team from a downsized large one. This should include both process and procedural changes as well as the attitude / mind set changes required to succeed. I too wish you cheers, -Ben |

... Bob, This is a repeat of my email to you... I had a look at the article list for next year... I found there was a fair bit of overlap with last year. We did Product vs Project in August, Build and Deployment in September, Evaluating tools in November, Release Management in May, CM Plan or Planning for CM in December, Frameworks in June, small teams in July I might suggest some other topics to reduce the overlap... One tool across the ALM vs. a composite Best of Breed set Agile CM Attacking the Ease of Use issue in CM Requirements and Traceability Widening developer acceptance of CM tools and a hot topic (a few years ago anyway)... CM Metrics. Cheers, Joe |
