Vertical Communications Selects Borland StarTeam® for its Software Change and Configuration Management Solution
CUPERTINO, Calif.--November 6, 2006--Borland Software Corporation
(NASDAQ:BORL) today announced that Vertical Communications, Inc., a
leading provider of next-generation, IP-based phone systems and
applications that help businesses better serve their customers, has
standardized on Borland StarTeam® as its solution for software change
and configuration management (SCM). Borland's technology and services
will enable the Vertical IT team to automate its software development
processes and bring greater predictability to software delivery.
Vertical Communications, whose TeleVantage® 7 product won Communications Solutions Magazine's "Product of the Year" Award for 2005, chose Borland StarTeam for its advanced capabilities to enforce workflows and compliance as well as the communication and collaboration support it offered for Vertical's geographically distributed development teams.
As a result of multiple acquisitions, Vertical now has three main development centers. Previously, each of these teams had their own platforms, processes and tools, which created productivity challenges. In order to streamline distributed development efforts, the Vertical team decided to consolidate to a single platform for SCM and defect tracking.
They chose Borland StarTeam for its ability to automate and work around Vertical's own customized workflows, as well as for its ability to centralize control of all project assets, integrating its branched code base. Finally, StarTeam's tight integrations with other Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) products and the reporting and dashboard features it offered provided management with better visibility and control over the larger development process. Vertical is also working with Borland Consulting Services to deploy the solution across its development team, making it part of the foundation for their overall software efforts.
"When you are competing against large market incumbents, it is critical to create competitive advantage through software innovations and quick response. Whether in uniquely solving customer needs, adapting to changing market conditions or delivering on market requirements speed of response often has a huge impact on your success," said Scott Pickett, Chief Technology Officer of Vertical Communications, Inc. "Having the right processes and systems in place to reduce development risk and promote distributed software development, collaboration and reuse greatly helps us to quickly build innovative products and be the first to meet customer and market demands. Borland's solution was exactly in line with our development strategy."
"Software development is becoming more and more complex - from increasingly stringent compliance standards to the communication and logistical challenges of distributed development," said Marc Brown, senior director of product marketing at Borland. "With this in mind, it is essential for organizations to have the right processes and technologies in place to mitigate this complexity and respond more effectively to changing business demands. We are pleased to be working with Vertical to help improve their software delivery process, making it a sustainable competitive advantage."
