What is software quality?
The American Society of Quality (ASQ) defines quality assurance as:
“The planned and systematic activities implemented in a quality system so that quality requirements for a product or service will be fulfilled.”
How does a company get there?
To support quality growth, a company must focus on the development of four key technology competency areas: tracking, testing, automation, and change.
Tracking
Tracking defects, issues, feature requests, change requests, and tasks through real-time notifications and reporting is not only essential to increasing productivity but also to creating collaborative processes that lead to greater software quality.
Testing
Testing ensures that the finished application does what it was required to do. Establishing quality goals, testing, and reporting progress are all essential tasks to producing a quality product on time, time-after-time.
Automation
Time is the one resource that is fixed and automation is one of the best ways to use time efficiently. Test cases, work item routing, state changes, builds, and other development-related tasks are all candidates for automation.
Change
Software products and the software development process include thousands of assets that must be versioned, shared, and updated in a controlled manner. Change management tools and practices are critical managing these assets and providing traceability required by internal and external regulations.
Are you quality-ready?
Find out where you rank by taking the Quality-Ready Assessment (QRA). The QRA consists of a short Web-based survey, and includes a customized report that describes your capabilities in the four key technology competency areas.
