Over the next week, I am involved in finalizing a number of
details for our annual Rational Software Development Conference 2007. This year, I was asked to put together a
panel discussion around the enterprise adoption of portfolio management, as an
organizational discipline. Another year,
in which, I did not duck fast enough – oh well!
Fortunately, I have a number of friends and professional
acquaintances whom I could beg (begging is a poorly appreciated art-form) to
help.

Last week, I received an instant message from my friend,
Steve, which gave me pause. It
said: “Hi Mike, I desperately need
something like: “Establishing PMOs for
Dummies”.
First, let me tell you that Steve is anything but a
dummy! He is an independent consultant,
a good one, with a PhD in Organizational Development; and, a lot of working
experience in the governance space.
I sent an instant message back which said: “Call me!”

Some two weeks ago, I attended, and spoke at the Nashville, Tennessee,
PMI Spring Symposium. Before I go any
farther, let me thank all the nice folks who both planned, and attended that
event for a very kind welcome.
And, as happens at these events, IBM Rational provided a
booth, to explain some of our products and services. For this event, we focused on our offerings
for portfolio management.
