Managing application development using SERENA technologies
Description
With this group I would like to share ideas and communicate with the group members on what people want to know about using Serena's technologies in the context of managing application development. I would not restrict it to PVCS, Dimensions, Business mashups, ZMF, Agile on Demand, or any other specific product, just an open forum to anyone interested in SCM, Agile,or ALM and learning/discussing about Serena's view and support.Announcements

I would like to know the future direction of your tool sets. What is the future of Version Manager? Will it always be a file based application? I was trained on Dimensions 6.0 and also on Dimensions 10.0. The administration still is not straightforward, its based on Oracle Forms with Java wrappers. Will there ever be a change in Dimensions making it more user friendly and administrator friendly?

Hey all, not sure if people have noticed, but Serena has released a new version of its Requirements management solutions (Dimensions RM 2009R2); its SCCM solution (Dimensions CM 2009R2) and its process management solutions (SBM 2009R2). Check it out of the web site if you are interested.

If people would have 3 wishes for a serena product to be improved, what would you wish for?
Let me know,
Eddy

"What version of dimensions are you familiar with?"
I Started on 6.... moved to 7.. then 8 then 9, 10 and now 2009 R1. ;-)
I "missed" Process Modeller when it went.... but can live with Admin Console now.... although I don't really "like" the look and feel.....
I still miss the old Process Modeller "Document Product Report" - which produced a pdf of the entire Dimensions Product/DP/Type etc setup......
I like Groups and Privileges and customised UIs....
I miss the "old" migration/upload utility that used to "just" generate thousands of CI and UI statements based on the content of a directory structure...... which I used to load into Excel and manipulate to achive what I really wanted.... I know they have wonderful new whizz-bang migration tools.... but at the end of the day all I want is a command syntax generator that I can tweak and fiddle with to do exactly what I want rather than be strait-jacketed into....

Hi All, Not sure what happened with this group. It "disappeared" for some time. Thaks Drewster for your comments. I agree with your comments that some people believe dimebsions CM to be a technical product. I have two comments on this thought: 1) Serena has been recently working hard on increasing simplicity (with success) and 2) we have been invresting time in templates to make the time-to-market much shorter than in the old releases. What version of dimensions are you familiar with?
Happy Holidays all!

Alec said "Talked about Serena Dimensions for 6 hours without notes. That seems like a sad achievement :-)"
I for one would like to applaud that (albeit sad) achievement :clap :clap :clap
I hope you at least had a willing audience!!!
I presented a training course, many years ago, when after lunch on the second day a delegate came up to me and said "I am sorry - I think I am on the wrong course......"
The thing was it was a fairly technical InfoMan course and the lady in question was supposed to be on a WordProcessing course! - I took it as a compliment that I kept her interest for approx 12 hours!

I tend to comment in the Forums: fairly active in Dimensions, PVCS as well as other non-Serena stuff.
To be honest I am not too sure about discussions in the Groups.... I have a nagging feeling that having several fora (sic) may lead to dilution and the risk of missing stuff....
I don't even know if its possible to search the Group discussions etc (the Forum search isn't brilliant but it sort of works....) if a search doesn't bring up "topics" from the Group side I am not sure I want to run multiple searches on the off-chance.....
Happy to keep an eye on Groups (this one at least) to see how it develops......

BTW
Are you "from" Serena?
Are you UK or US? - I am a UK "freelancer" with lots of Serena contact over the years (including a stint subbing on a major project)
