Until recently, the term "content management" was synonymous with Web content distribution. Although Web content management applications can manage Web content well, they cannot automate business processes outside the Web and are, at best, a basic architecture for document management.
During the past two years, document management (DM) has evolved into enterprise content management (ECM). ECM solutions seek to combine traditional DM capabilities with distribution for multiple channels (including the Web and syndication) similar to capabilities of Web CM packages
