Customers need a complete change management solution. CM (Configuration Management) tools help manage versions of the source code and force discipline in change management with their group work features. However, they do not provide all the information necessary for change management decisions. They do not help understand the structure of the applications. They do not deliver change impact analysis. And they do not help make new developments compliant with the standards defined by the organization. Proper Change Management requires the combined use of Configuration Management and Application Mining.
CAST supports all Configuration Management tools that comply with SCC so that customers can easily customize an interface between CAST and their CM tool of choice. Beyond this, CAST also helps Configuration Management with the deployment of the SQL side of applications. It guarantees that what is sent to production is what has been actually tested. CAST Release Builder carries out delta script comparisons between the production and test versions of a SQL application in the servers, detects changes, extracts the SQL objects from the CM tool, and orders SQL scripts to create the DB in the production environment.
