CVSNT is a modern, feature rich implementation of CVS server and client. It is licensed under the GPL (free) and is currently available for Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac OS X.
CVSNT is the most popular CVS client in use today and is the standard client bundled with WinCVS and TortoiseCVS. As a server it is used to version millions of dollars worth of source code by thousands of organisations.
Features specific to CVSNT include:
* Access Control Lists for Branches
* Integrated bug ID, can commit by bug id, specify bug id on edit etc
* MergePoint for easier merging
* Reserved checkouts
* Support for localised filenames and comments (umlauts and other characters)
* Support for any document encoding, including unicode and any other supported by iconv
* Versioned rename of files (filename can be referred to by new-name/old-name as appropriate)
* Extended information available in notification scripts (bug number, exclusivity)
* You can refer to commits by their commit ID (atomic commits)
* New scripts/triggers: precommand, premodule, postmodule, postcommand.
* Server can be ran as unprivileged (secure) on Unix (chroot jail) or Win32 (RunAsUser)
* Support for global watcher who receives notification of all edit/unedit/commit events
