The assessment of risk is fundamental to the security of any organization. Specifically, it is essential to ensure that controls and expenditure are inline with the risks to which the organization is exposed. Unfortunately, many conventional methods for performing security risk analysis are becoming more and more untenable in terms of usability and flexibility. Configuration Management, which may be generally overlooked as simply an application development discipline, can however provide key methodologies to secure an organization's IT assets.
