Judging by the skills enumerated on job descriptions for software configuration management (SCM) professionals, automating “the build process” is a high priority for many groups that develop software. While build automation can improve an organization’s ability to deliver quality software, build automation is not a silver bullet. Build automation enables one aspect of a software development process to be repeatable.
