This was a busy week for many people in NYC and the entire Northeastern United States. The massive blackout challenged us all to respond to a difficult situation. I had to walk, about 5 hours, from midtown Manhattan to Brooklyn where I live. In my volunteer work with emergency services, we learned a lot of tough lessons. At my “day job" where I help large organizations improve their software development practices (e.g. Software Configuration and Release Management), I’ve learned a lot of tough lessons about implementing CM best practices. Many of those are related to understanding what is really important and how to deal with difficult situations in a flexible and effective manner. Read on if you’d like to share some of my lesson’s learned.
