Speakers: Release Management is a relatively new role in most organization. The rise of Release Management has been driven by other major trends in application development over the last decade: distributed systems using Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), distributed development with outsourced and/or offshore teams, and the faster pace of releases with Agile Software Development. These trends have conspired to increase the complexity of releases, the cost of failure for releases, while at the same time increasing the frequency of releases. No wonder then that Release Management is in the spotlight, and under pressure to create an efficient and controlled release process. ITIL, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library, provides a set of guidelines for Release Management, but putting the generic abstractions of ITIL together into a functional system can be a daunting task.
