epidemiology of yellow fever
Our previous few articles have been looking at principles of other fields such as OO and seeing how they might translate to SCM principles. In a variation on this theme (and because of personal interest), we wanted to write about what the principles and practices of Martial Arts might have of relevance to us as SCM practitioners.
In this article we are focusing on the relationship of martial arts to the practices of leadership, communication and influence - particularly conflict resolution and learning. These are all skills and areas that we need both for our personal development, and in particular the aspects of SCM that concern dealing with other people - whether this is influencing or selling our vision to senior management, or with looking to change the mindset of a group of developers. The focus is thus rather less Agile and SCM than usual. This article is an introduction to the topic rather than all encompassing. There are many potential areas to look at and if your interest is piqued you will quickly find lots of good reading on the net. Posted originally: 10/17/2006
