Want to know how what the COBIT framework is about and how it dictates business processes to meet regulatory requirements? Judith M. Myerson gives an overview of the framework, and shows how you can automate COBIT business processes using the IBM® Rational® Portfolio Manager. She highlights primary aspects of the framework and explains how the domain lifecycle works. She briefly covers IT Governance Focus Areas and control objectives.
In my first article on Managing Compliance series on IT frameworks, I mentioned COBIT® is a short for Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology, and was first defined in April 1996 by the IT Governance Institute ® (ITGI). I pointed out it is an IT governance framework that helps to ensure proper control and governance over information and the systems that create, store, and manipulate IT. COBIT® provides a framework for putting controls in place to ensure you are compliant with the regulations, such as the SOX Act and Basel II, and bridges the gap between control needs, technical issues, business risks and performance measurement requirements when implementing financial controls.
