Wiki Page Refactoring
WikiPageRefactoring is simply reorganizing and/or moving portions of text from one page onto new pages (with a referring hyperlink from the original page). Typically it is done to make the reorganized pages more focused and on-topic while still providing room for "offshoots", sidebars, digressions, and tangents (etc.)
This is a common Wiki-practice that is used to grow a topic into a hyperlinked set of related subtopics. If it happens with commentary you had originally added, please don't assume any malice or agenda. Refactoring of pages is a natural part of Wiki-webs.
I encourage folks to see the original Wiki for
WikiEditingCustoms before being quick to misinterpret seemingly surprising editing-practices. (see the pages on
ThreadMode and
DocumentMode from there as they are good starting points to other custom, such as
DigChannelsInsteadOfRaisingDams - where this practice came from (I was the one who had it done to me at that time
There are certain
WikiHouseKeepingTasks commonly practiced by
WikiCitizens. One of these is refactoring pages to keep them focused and cohesive while moving discussions and tangents to other hyperlinked pages. It's not for 'policing' purposes, but for referencing purposes (to make the subtopic a 'first class' with its own separate page, and for space-limitations (there is a hard-limit on the amount of text in a page, after which it must be split up in order to allow more editing)
