Software Configuration
A Software Configuration is a set of
Configuration Items.
This is an abstract concept. One can map an arbitrary complex reality having a software representation to a Software Configuration, for the purpose of managing it.
There is however a fundamental restriction in the relationship between
software configurations and
configuration items, and it is the
Exclusion Principle. Configuration items are identified as families of possible representations, in such a way that at most one such representation may appear in any given software configuration.
