A growing area in IT is the movement towards mature Service Management i.e. managing your IT division as a business.
As part of addressing this requirement a framework was produced by the UK Government (OGC). The framework was called the IT Infrastructure Library and has quickly become the recognised global standard.
The purpose of this section of the CM Wiki site is to introduce the libraries primary CM "Service Support" components from an IT Infrastructure Library perspective.
Important: In ITIL, disciplines like Configuration Management, Change Management and Deployment are clearly separated. This "typically" differs from the more holistic definition that exists within other communities.
Terminology differences are also interesting. For example, those familiar with terms like Change Control Board (CCB) and Software Repository may be suprised to see them renamed Change Advisory Board (CAB) and Definitive Software Library (DSL).
Below We provide a list of traditional and ITIL definitions.
