History of CM -- Discussion

Discussion and commentary on the content of the HistoryOfCM page on this wiki.

Hmm. The link on WebHome page said History of CM, but here I see dates from SCM history. Mechanical engineers have somewhat different understanding of CM concepts, and they believe CM is older than SCM. What's the truth?

the truth is that CM has been around since the dawn of time. It wasn't formalized as a discipline until the 1950's when the US found it couldn't build missiles the same way twice. -- BobVentimiglia? - 12 Jan 2003

Then Lets see some more HCM content. By the way CCC was orginally a Hardware/Software CM concept.

That discussion (what is CM/SCM) is an other story, which would deserve its own history. And is not settled. -- MarcGirod - 25 May 2007

This book is out of print. It was my bible for quite awhile. 1971 Samaras and Czerwinski

What about adding diff (1970-74, Doug McIlroy?) and patch (1985, Larry Wall, as per Wikipedia)?
