Generalized Configuration Item

I believe that with the concept of late identification, I have better explained than before, how derived objects could be used to extend the scope of SCM beyond this of CM, to make the former more general than the latter.

The issue is to offer tool support to map the abstract concept of configuration item to unrestricted (file) objects in user space. The restriction of the mapping to file objects is still a boundary to be pushed, but not at the price of degrading the support offered by the tools.
