Democracy

'What the hell has democracy to do with SCM?' would you ask me. It has, if we think of what actually is politics, and if we are ready to take some distance from the most usual ideological prejudices.

Democracy should not be felt as a burden on the efficiency of decision making. It is on the contrary the main asset to make sophisticated decisions, as required by the complexity of the challenges. Decisions made by in-place aristocracies tend to be bad enough over time to lose against a smarter, more open, competition.

Democracy has thus nothing to do with enforcing the inertia of majorities, but all to do with making it possible for critical spirit to emerge and express itself. Novel, interesting ideas are structurally always held by minorities.
