Appendix B: A Brief Description of our Efforts to Make the CMBoK
In January 2003, Steve Kershaw, an IT professional with 20 years experience and having spent half his career in Configuration Management, realized that a change was needed for the field of Configuration Management to come into full professional status. He soon discussed the need for a more formalized approach to Configuration Management as a profession and the possible need for the establishment of professional certification with Patrick Eagan, one of the administrators for CMCROSSROADS. Detecting approval and support for the notion, Mr. Kershaw took the next step.
The
CMBoK was initially discussed as part of a General Configuration Management Discussion on the CMCROSSROADS Web site in January 2003. Proposed by Steven Kershaw, and championed by several Configuration Management professionals, authors, and vendors. Brad Appleton initially set the work area up known as
CMBoK on the CMWiki.CM site.
Soon, other professionals like Carilda Thomas and Dirk Wessel stepped in making contributions, editing and proof reading. The complete list of contributors, editors and reviewers is listed in
Appendix C.
This effort, once completed, we hope will come to be generally accepted as the primary 'authority' for Configuration Management professionals as the
PMBOK® has been accepted for Project Managers. --
