Where can I get an overview of AccuRev/CM's special concepts?
A great place to start is "AccuRev/CM Concepts" chapter of the
AccuRev Documentation.
Does AccuRev/CM have UNIX/Windows interoperability?
Yes. Has excellent cross-platform capabilities. Handles EOL conversion automatically, everything works the same on both platforms (cli and GUI) and you can host servers on any platform. There is 98% common code on all platforms and we release for all platforms at the same time.
AccuRev/CM deals with case-insensitivity issues automatically.
Does AccuRev/CM support remote access (web/rlogin/ssh)?
Yes, it supports remote access.
AccuRev/CM is client/server based over TCP/IP. Working through a secure environment is supported.
AccuRev/CM works well over
LAN's, WAN's and dialups for remote access.
Does AccuRev/CM have a GUI for visual merging?
Yes, Tere is an outstanding GUI based three way merge tool.
Can you import a ClearCase, CVS, RCS, or Visual Source Safe repository into your system?
Yes.
How does AccuRev/CM work for telecommuters?
Many customers like to work from home or remote locations using anywhere from a 56K connection to a DSL connection with no problems or complaints at any of these speeds. Some customers say that they have engineers who regularly commute in on the train. They do work on the train and sync with the server when they get into the office.
In any case,
AccuRev/CM uses a very thin streaming protocol over TCP/IP which reduces client/server interactions to the absolute minimum possible.
Does AccuRev/CM have safe directory reorganization?
Yes. Has versioned file names and directories. Also, you don't have to check out a directory to change the name or location of something it contains. Renaming or moving files and directories is very easy and is a simple matter of "accurev move" or Cut/Paste.
Does AccuRev/CM support something similar to the RCS-keywords such as '$Id:'?
Yes. Supports many different triggers and we have a trigger which will do this for you. See
http://www.accurev.com/download and take a look at addheader.pl . Since this is a script it can be easily expanded. Triggers run once per operation. So, if you check in 100 files this script gets run once and updates the 100 files instead of being run 100 times and updating 1 file each time.
Does AccuRev/CM have any built-in limits on the number of users, transactions, files, etc?
No. All values in
AccuRev/CM are stored as 64 bit numbers regardless of which platform you are on.
AccuRev/CM has been architected to allow for any number of users, transactions, files, versions, etc.
What SCM tools does AccuRev Inc. use to develop AccuRev/CM?
AccuRev believes very strongly in their own tools. They have always used
AccuRev/CM for the development of
AccuRev/CM and have never used anything other than
AccuRev/CM. For integrated issue-tracking, we use
AccuRev/Dispatch. For Windows development, we use our MS-SCC API integration with all of the compliant tools that we use. Our developers "self-host" on each and every release of
AccuRev/CM and Dispatch before they go out the door.
